柳 宗理展
Sori Yanagi
日本を代表するデザイナー柳宗理（1915- ）。現代の日本におけるデザインの存在意義を主張し続けてきました。幾度も手作業による実験（ワークショップ）を繰り返し、デザインは構想から現実へと歩みはじめます。地道なプロセスを踏んで生まれたかたちは使い手を裏切りません。また、作家性を前面に押し出さず、無名性にこだわるそのかたちは、すんなりと私たちの生活に溶け込む柔軟性も備えています。柳のデザイン分野は家具、食器、文具、公共建築など多岐にわたります。それらの制作過程を図面、プロトタイプなど貴重な資料から追うことによって、使い手のためのデザインを貫く柳の思考に迫ります。モノが溢れる今日に、本展がその本質を見つめ直す機会となれば幸いです。 　 Leading Japanese Designer, Sori Yanagi (1915-). He has continuously advocated the importance of design in modern-day Japan. After a repetition of experiences (workshops) by hands, designs start moving from a concept to reality. Shapes made through a process of quiet dedication do not disappoint the user. Also, the fact that the maker does not put his name out-front and sticks to anonymity provides the flexibility to blend into our daily life. Yanagi’s designs cover a lot of ground including home furnitures, cutleries, stationeries, and public facilities. By following the designing process, taking a look at valuable documents like plans and prototypes, we will try to close up on Yanagi’s thoughts. In a world filled with goods, we hope that this exhibition will be a clue for looking at the essence of these things.
